Four Months in Rome, Part Five

Brenda, Cheri and I made the trek to the Ikea store and the mall today on the outskirts of Rome. It takes two buses and an hour of time, but you don’t have to navigate the streets or find a parking spot. We had a mission. Brenda is teaching her painting class in the graphic design and interior design studios this semester. Her studio was rented out to another American university when ISU didn’t think they’d have Brenda come over to teach this semester. We had so many students sign up for painting and mixed media, they sent her over… with really no place to put her. So, we were looking for something to use as table-top easels because all of the ones we’d already found were very expensive. We were successful; finding light weight sawhorses and tiny shelf brackets to screw on at the bottom of the legs for the canvases to sit on. We were pretty proud of ourselves and they will only cost about 5 a piece. We’ll assemble our prototype tomorrow, then send someone with a car to go back and get more of the sawhorses. We actually found the materials at the Leroy Merlin store, which is like our Lowes

We ate lunch while we were at the Ikea store. My major professor, Roger, told me I needed to eat the Swedish meatballs and potatoes when I went, but I had a salmon wrap instead. Both Brenda and Cheri had the meatballs, so I got to try them. There were pretty good! Walking through the mall I had to laugh at the Italian version of our Old Navy store… Original Marines

It took all day, but we made it home, had supper together, then parted for home.
